Without hiring an attorney, how do I know that an insurance settlement is a fair amount for an auto accident?

I was injured badly enough to require surgery that I am still not fully recovered from and haven’t worked for the past 10 months since the accident. I’ve lost so much because of someone crashing into us! Time with my son, my family, my job, and a lot of use out of my writing arm.

u may be able to get compensated for loss of wages, medical bills, and your car and the money you will lose from loss of arm function. other than that, its just a guessing game. u cant put a price on loss of time with people.

I seriously would contact a lawyer. The insurance company has had you sign a bunch of papers, and you may have signed away a bunch of your rights already.

Get a lawyer, before it is too late.

What makes you think for a second that a damn lawyer will tell you what a ‘fair’ settlement is? Once they smell blood they can only think about how much they can get out of a case, no matter what you think or say. They don’t know the meaning of ‘fair’. They only know stall, lie, stall, squirm, stall, pout, scream, threaten, lie some more, etc, etc. It’s ALWAYS about themselves 100% of the time. Always try to reach an agreement with the insurance company first. A lawyer should only be a last resort. Just be logical — add up all tangible expenses and then try to arrive at a practical amount for pain and suffering and start from there. There are a lot of sorry-a** adjusters out there but there are also many, many intelligent, thoughtful and very professional adjusters that will truly attempt to be fair. If you don’t like their offer don’t yell or threaten to sue — just tell them and see how it goes. The longer you can keep a civil and logical attitude the better the chances of a good settlement.
