Why do people who oppose the health insurance reform bill think it’s socialistic?

In: Health Insurance

It uses privatization, not socialistic principles.

The reason why the rest of the world pays half per capita for health care (and get better outcomes) is because EVERYBODY IS COVERED.

Don’t people understand that for the price to go down, everyone has to be included and contribute. That’s why there’s the mandate.

People are more emotional than logical.

Because they believe everything they hear on Fox News. Fox viewers are the useful idiots for big business.

I understand the concept since I work in the health care technology industry and deal with insurance stuff all the time. But, I also understand human nature. It’s naive for anyone to believe that 31 million people are going to go out and buy insurance to help even out the risk pool. The people who passed this thing are banking on it. After that happens is when we’ll see a socialistic single payer health care system come into being.

Right, it’s corporatist fascism, not socialism.

It was, then it wasn’t. A mandate is just ridiculous though. Right now, it’s just a terrible bill that no one really wanted by the end.

Everyone is not covered(read the damn bill),but everybody pays. If not, the first thing that happens is the IRS will seize any tax refund you have, if it is not the amount owed then you will be fined without going to any kind of court hearing
Now, how is that logical

Because they’ve been parroting everything they “know” for so long that they can’t stop themselves.

It may well be a social program in the future meaning single payer the government. with taxpayer money. No other countries do not mandate you to have their health care.

Dems need to quit repeating that other countries have better medical outcomes. Look it up, the US has the best medical care in the world and the highest survival rate for cancer. THAT’S why people come to the US for treatment.

Not really concerned whether or not it is socialist. Regardless, this health care reform bill will never go in to effect before it is struck down by the Supreme Court.

It is an unfunded federal mandate. By law the federal government can NOT force anybody to go out and purchase insurance. The exact same court case was made when the federal government tried to force local country sheriffs to do background checks regarding gun control legislation when Sheriff Richard Mack challenged the feds because it was an unfunded federal mandate. The exact same principle applies to the federal government trying to force people to buy insurance against their will without funding the individuals to buy it.

Secondly, the majority of the states will make this legislation illegal in their states and thus completely unenforceable.

Because it’s using the force of government to force people into something they don’t want.

I’m one of those but I’d like to see some bureaucrat try and force me to pay for anything I don’t want.

There’s absolutely no need for doctors, drugs, surgery or health insurance if you know how to take care of yourself.

If the government (who has taken on this massive and costly program) makes it’s
citizens buy into health insurance or pay a fine…..that is socialism. There will
still be thousands of people not covered (I thought that was the whole purpose
of this bill?). There are items in this bill that actually has nothing to do with
healthcare (page 127: the government will set wages), (page170 all non-resident
aliens are exempt from taxes),(page 59: the federal government will have
direct-real time access to all individual bank accounts) and cuts in Medicare
and Medicaid to help pay for this program (huh?) This plan hurts the Seniors
(which we all will be sooner or later) as this plan goes way into the future.
