Why do health insurance companies drop people who are sick?

And people who have preexisting health conditions?

I read an article in a magazine about how a man who desperately needed surgery for his heart and he was denied the money for that surgery by several health insurance companies. Eventually, the money was raised through the help of friends, family, and strangers. But by then it was too late. He was dying and those health insurance companies denied him. Maybe if they had helped him he would still be alive today.

I know it’s all about money and business, but do health insurance companies really not give a f*ck about people? Why would they be so cruel and deny coverage to the people who need it the most?

This is why I’d like healthcare for the masses. I’m one of the people that is blacklisted from all medical and health insurance. Not even my fault. A genetic defect isn’t something you control. Because of it I can’t get anything without paying prices on par with cancer patients.

It’s ridiculous.

you need to re-read this article. an insurance company can’t deny a claim unless there is a reason.
tjhey can deny a pre-existing condition or make the premium compatible w/ the risk..
for those who don’t get it, it’s like going to your friends an neighbors and telling them they need to pay your health care costs when it’s not their problem or their fault. they may want to help, but also, they may not be able to and still provide for thier own family. many of you people seem to think mony grows on trees jsut because the asshole in the white house spends like a drunken sailoor and then it’s all fine and good to just print money. well, it’ snot okay, the economy wil get worse and inflation will skyrocket.

It’s business, businessman have no feelings, it’s all about what is going to be on the bottom line and they want to maximize their profit. That is why Congress is trying to pass health reform.

That’s it completely. They don’t give a damn about anyone except when it comes to collecting their money. If every person they covered died they wouldn’t give a rat’s @$$ except for the fact that they would be able to collect from those people anymore. Why do you think we need health care reform? Because the current system is completely effed up.

Its all about the money and profits. You really think they care about you as an individual? no way. I agree this is happening. Insurance companies discriminate against sick people cuz it will cost them money. To them its just one or two lives..against profit for tens and hundreds in the industry. We r pretty doomed. The solution is pretty simple. Give everyone healthcare. The businesses will suffer? let them. We will have to drink the glass of poison (high taxes) in order to get universal health care. Eventually the taxes will be calm. But this is not what purpose.
All We have to do is enforce doctors, and nurses and pharmacies to cure a patient to the point that he will not have to come back. The doctors in America give medicine to a patient enough to bring him back so he can make money..but this is hurting the healthcare industry overall. All the extra money is being wasted with the repeating patients. Seriously if we cut that out, we will save so much money. The US is spending sooo much money and still failing. We rank 50th among other nations in healthcare..those you havent even heard of..and they dont spend even close to what we do.

Well it is sad when people are denied coverage. Health insurance companies can not drop coverage due to health. As long as premiums are paid their health coverage will stay in force. Now for preexisting conditions they can sometimes deny coverage for a period of time, usually 6 months from the first day that coverage was in force. Now if you are already sick your not going to be able to get coverage. That would be like writing a Life insurance policy on someone that is already dead.

But if the health reform gets passed he would have probably been denied care as well. That is how it is in the other countries that have government ran health care.

It is a business. Sicker people cost more money than what they pay in premiums. Just like auto insurance companies will drop people after an accident(s).

And actually health insurers do want people to live healthier lives, but the reasons behind that is greed too….healthier people equals less expenses. I totally agree with you on the sick, though….would never want that job, “sorry your policy is canceled.”
