I think you already know that purchasing health insurance is an important project. You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process so that you understand what you are purchasing. Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but there is so much more to the decision than price.

You need to determine how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care. This will determine the cost of your health insurance. If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage, low deductibles and low copays your monthly premiums will be significant.

On the other hand if you are young and healthy and rarely use the health care system you can choose a plan that covers the major health catastrophe your premiums will be relatively low.

Check with the agent that writes your home, auto or business insurance he/she can provide you valuable advice that takes into account your budget and health situation. If they don’t handle health insurance they could refer you to a trusted colleague.

If you want to use the Internet use it to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage.

Affordable is in the eye of the beholder. Health insurance costs what it costs. A decent plan, if you’re 25 and healthy, with a low or no deductible, is GOING to cost $250 a month. To lower the cost, you have to lower coverages, or increase the deductible, significantly.

You get what you pay for.

The CHEAPEST place for you to get health insurance, is through a group plan with your employer – because most likely the employer picks up a big chunk of the cost.

If you buy online, you’re more likely to get scammed. Fake policies are on the rise, as are passing off discount plans as “insurance”. They are NOT. So I strongly recommend going to a local, independent agent – like the guy that writes your car insurance – and asking him for a couple quotes. He’ll know who has the most competitive product in your area.

Right – affordable IS in the eye of the beholder. But if you are healthy and fairly young it should not be that expensive to protect yourself against major accident or illness.

You know that your age and health AND the type of insurance you want will impact your premium. It also matter where you live.

Of course, I think that getting online quotes and comparing local rates and plans is the easiest way to balance what you can afford with a plan that suits you.

Take 5 minutes and get quotes.

To get the best idea of your pricing and coverage options, talk to a local agent or two. They will know of the most affordable plans with the best coverage in your local market.

You can get competitive quotes from local agents by going to http://www.myinsurancequotes.net and filling out a quote form there.
