If Congress approves Obama’s discretionary spending freeze, what is the future of health insurance reform?

In: Health Insurance

23 Apr 2010

The CBO reports that the health insurance bill currently in conference will cost somewhere between $900 billion and $1.2 trillion.

Does the freeze only start AFTER this bill is signed into law? Or will there be some fuzzy math involved to exempt this from the freeze?

Health insurance reform has been dead for a while, it just didn’t know it until last Tuesday.

The CBO will be pressured to say that the healthcare takeover is budget neutral, so it will be exempt from the freeze. Since Obama came in, the CBO is no longer an independent voice of analysis on Capitol Hill.

If that was the case, which I don’t think will happen since the health care bill won’t pass because it is crazy and most people know it, I’m sure they would find a way to sneak it in before the freeze is signed into law.

Here is what Obama wants. “The president will propose the congressional freeze on “non-security” spending in his State of the Union address Wednesday night, senior administration officials said. The freeze, which would apply to annual spending on day-to-day government”
The key words here are “non-security”. So all they have to do is either justify what ever spending they want under “security” or stuff non security items into security related bills as they have done in the past. As with everything else with Obama, he will use his own discretion as to what will get buy him. If it has to do with unions and progressive movement supporters, he will approve the spending as he has always done. This guy is a snake and the leadership in congress are in that snake basket with him.
