Health Insurance Bill Unconstitutional Problem? What about car insurance?

In: Health Insurance

15 May 2010

Sen. Hutchinson said there is an unconstitutional problem about the health care bill, but doesn’t buying car insurance also have an unconstitutional problem?
well, it really depends where you live. Some parts of the U.S., owning a car is not voluntary, it is essential.

Let us not confuse you with the difference between rights and privileges, or between federal and state governments…

You are not forced to buy a car and car insurance. With car insurance you must carry at least liable insurance so you can pay for the harm/damage inflicted on others. However, everyone has health and will be forced to buy health insurance.

To own a car is voluntary and it’s been long considered that “driving is not a privilage”. However, that argument used for HCIR would be ridiculous.

I think so. That business is so corrupt.

I’m 25, I’ve never been in an accident, late on a bill, or even a TICKET and i still pay $200 a month for LIABILITY, and trust me, i’ve checked around.

Yeah, I called progressive and their (own) (cheapest) estimate was $500/month more than what i was paying and they still had the nerve to ask if i wanted to switch over to them

I think all of you should start by reading the Constitution. You will find that there is a LOT of legislation that our government has that is not in there directly. From both parties as well. Look at the Patriot Act the GWb came out with. Constitutional? Not by a longshot. That is just a recent example too. Go back and you will see both sides passing legislation that is not directly in the Constitution. The thing is, people only whine when it benefits the other party. It is funny how the party pushing the bill never whines or points out that it isn’t in the Constitution.

And, sure, driving is a privilege not a right. But there are many areas of our countries where it is necessary for survival. You need to get to the store, or to a hospital, and the nearest one is 70 miles away… you gonna jog it? You can argue that driver’s insurance affects others becuase they can be in an accident. True. It is also true, however, that when an uninsured person goes into the ER their bills are often picked up by others in the form of price increases that the hospital makes to raise money to pay for the bills it has to eat becuase people couldn’t pay and weren’t insured.

Another big difference between this health care bill and driver’s insurance is that if you can’t afford driver’s insurance, you our out of luck. If you can’t afford health insurance under the new bill, they will give you varying levels of assistance so that you can.

People are adamant against this, and really have no clue what they are fighting against. All they know is the propaganda that was spread about “death panels” and “massive medicare cuts” and they force you to buy insurance or throw you in jail. These things range from gross exaggerations and things taken out of context, to things that are not even remotely based on truth (such as the “death Panels”)
The Republicans used these things to spread fear and it worked. They did this becuase they themselves are afraid. Not of the health care bill, but for the safety of their party. They know that a victory in health care for Obama and the Democrats will likely weaken their party even further, which they can’t risk as they are quite weak already. Bottom line is they are not fighting to protect the American people, they are fighting to protect their own political agenda. And many people are falling for it. I understand that if you disagree you will automatically dismiss all of what I say, and I have no problem with that as long as you pay attention to one part: Do some research and don’t just take what one party or the other tells you as the unquestionable truth.
