Can I be in jail for not paying a claim on car insurance sent?

I was in a collision without insurance this year. The bill was $ 500 and I was not able to pay. My phone has been for a few months, and when I turned back, I got a voicemail saying that I am with court papers (of course I get served deleted the message and lost the number, FML). I have never been sued, so I do not really know what to expect.

I want to do this right and can pay $ 500. What are my options? Can I really be sent to prison?

Theoretically, you can be sent to prison – but in reality you are not – because you can not earn money in prison to repay debt.

What is happening is that your license is suspended and connected your wages, or if you get assigned to community service, but the product of what you deserve “to go to the person you need.
