building and contents home insurance?

In: Home Insurance

we had a fire that caused a fair bit of damage in our kitchen. I pay for a buildings and contents policy so I am covered, however, the insurance company are charging me two seperate excess fees. £50 for building and £50 for contents. I dont understand this when its the one policy I pay for and the building and contents are under the one policy.

is this right?

Yes, they are separate policy’s, it will be in the small print..

make sure you list every item that was damaged / destroyed however small.
