At What Point Do I Need To Get Home Owners Insurance?

28 Jan 2010I am closing on a home today. The agreement calls for me to have home owners insurance on the home. Is is to late to get coverage today? It just slipped my mind with all I had going on. What do you suggest?

You should be able to get coverage today. Most lenders require you to bring a paid receipt to closing. Call an agent asap & they should be able to write it for you. I write last minute policies all the time for people that are closing that day. Just try to get the process started early so they will have time to get everything together. The agent will probably have to contact the loan processor to get their info and some other details. Good luck!

If you do not already have the home owners insurance they may still let you close on the loan with out it. But I would suggest that you get the insurance as soon as possible because believe me you will never need it until you don’t have it.

Nope, not too late. A local agent should be able to get you a binder.
You usually need that at the closing.

The lender won’t let you close without it.
